The Hunger Games Trilogy
Just finished reading the final book of The Hunger Games even though I have my last paper tomorrow (ya IKR, final semester syndrome) and I have to say it’s quite disappointing. It would be quite a sight on the screens when the time comes, with all the gores and deaths prevalent in all 3 books but when I was reading it, I actually fell asleep because it was sooooooo draggy, too much personal thoughts of Katniss, although I admit these thoughts play a crucial part in bringing alive the story. Up till this point, I should probably say SPOILER ALERT. It was quite expected that the Capitol would be toppled, but the events building up to it were cut off rather abruptly and the climax was never reached (okay, maybe during the assassination) because the main character herself was what, unconscious when Panem changed hands. I have to admit though, that Im thoroughly captivated by this whole story, a satirical tale about political powers that would make a very fine subject for literature analysis. The idea of using innocent human lives as pawns in a gameshow for entertainment strikes people deep in the hearts, at the sadistic mindsets, at the messages and themes clearly projected, ones that reek of the power of fear and control. Further, I was feeling so angry at Katniss for being so strong-headed, so undeserving of love, so unappreciative of others’ consideration towards her that it’s quite hard for me to share her grief in losing her loved ones. Instead, I only feel sad for those who had died in battle and in vain. Nevertheless, I find it a worthy read.

That inevitable trip to the dentist
Haven’t been blogging for a while now, not because I don’t have the time to, but there wasn’t the need to vent, write down the many many urgent thoughts in my head because I’ve been feeling pretty zen about most things these few weeks. That’s it, until today. Been breaking frozen chocolates from the fridge with my teeth and drinking cold drinks during my little “breaks” from mugging until this toothache came along, emitting from this particular problematic tooth from secondary school. It was affecting my speech, my appetite and my sleep so I decided to take the unpopular plunge of visiting the place I abhor the most – the dentist. I really took those free services in schools for granted last time, and my heart was falling as I researched for dental clinics to visit. The fees were way out of my range and I was desperately looking for discount opportunities. In the end, the discount couldn’t be used, I had to do an additional xray, I was scared to tears by the possible thought of extracting my biggest molar or having a root canal, and eventually had two large fillings on both sides of my mouth. It was really embarrassing though, to cry at the dentist, but the dentist and the nurse were really nice about it. Now I’m really having second thoughts about going for braces. And my 3rd and 4th tentative graduation trips are probably not going to materialise now. It also made me realise that I have to improve on my oral habits.
I’m glad I have this favourite episode of mine to turn to at times like this, one of the reasons being that I can see my favourite guy several times.
Right now I just have to get through this mugging hell before I’m officially free and exploring Taiwan.

Some Inspiration
Give up your personal history, give up your past beliefs about what you can and can’t do, and know that each day is a new, a new chance for us to start again, a new day for us to make new choices, learn new things, meet new people and improve ourselves.

21st Century Disney Princesses
^^ Notice that the evolution occurs largely in the cleavage and leg areas. I don’t see any resemblance in Cinderella and Mulan though.
